2016 Volkswagen Golf vs 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI
The Volkswagen Golf and Golf GTI. What are the differences held because of those three capital letters? As you might have assumed, or already know, the GTI is the amped up version with extra oomf beneath the hood and a sportier design overall. There’s more to it than that of course, so let’s take a look at how the 2016 Volkswagen Golf and 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI compare.
The Volkswagen Golf hatchbacks are divided into four main varieties: the Golf, entirely electric e-Golf, Golf GTI, and the Golf R. In this review, as mentioned above, we will strictly be comparing the Golf vs Golf GTI.
For 2016, the Volkswagen Golf offers four major trim levels: base, S, SE, and SEL. As for the Golf GTI, there are three trim levels to choose from: S, SE, and Autobahn. The Volkswagen Golf and Golf GTI are both available in two and four door models, but it will depend on which trim level you pick because some are specifically offered in one select body style.

2016 Volkswagen Golf and Golf GTI: Innovative and Urban Hatchbacks
One of the biggest differences between the 2016 Volkswagen Golf and Golf GTI is going to be what lies beneath the hood. The 2016 Golf, across all four trim levels, is powered by Volkswagen’s peppy 1.8L TSI turbocharged engine that produces 170 HP. In each of the 2016 Golf GTI’s trim levels, it’s powered by a 210 HP turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. In addition to the power boost, it also is given a sport-tuned suspension and DCC Dynamic Chassis Control system to help keep handing and performance all under the driver’s influence.
Even with the extra gusto, the GTI still keeps up in terms of fuel efficiency, only slightly falling behind the Golf for highway efficiency. It’s meant to be more of a performer without burning up all of your fuel as an expense for the fun and thrill of more dynamic handling. Both hatchbacks are going to be easy vehicles to handle, especially in a cramped and crowded urban setting. The Golf and Golf GTI both are the same size when measuring length and width, but as for ground clearance, the Golf is slightly higher up. Because the Golf GTI is a sportier performer, it rides a bit lower to the ground. Storage space is practical and the same in either hatchback, giving drivers 22.8. cu.ft. of flexibility with the seats in place and more than double this when folded down.
