Having grown 10.7 inches in length and adding 4.4 inches to the wheelbase, the VW Tiguan now has a new chassis to improve driving dynamics and handling. The ride is lower and smoother while staying true to the sporty handling Volkswagen is revered for.
Up until this point in time, the Volkswagen Tiguan has remained a five-passenger vehicle with two rows of seating. For 2018, a third row will become standard on all front-wheel-drive Tiguan models and optional on 4motion all-wheel-drive models.
Revamped for the new generation, the 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is capable of producing 184 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the Tiguan increases its efficiency while maintaining its sporty acceleration.
The smallest sport utility vehicle within the Volkswagen crossover family, the Tiguan is categorized as compact but has grown quite a bit as it enters its second generation. And while the Tiguan is smaller than the Touareg, it will be available with a third row of seating and the same goes for the all-new Atlas. The second row of seating in the 2018 Tiguan can split 40:20:40 and slide on a seven-inch track, making life much simpler to climb in and out of the third-row.
Together the new interior and MQB chassis increase interior space by 57%, making for more flexible passenger and storage space. In addition to providing a roomier cabin overall, the cockpit in the Tiguan is customizable with five settings.
Driver settings help to make the ride more comfortable each time you take the Tiguan for a spin while Apple CarPlay or Android Auto help to keep you as connected as possible. As for the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit, a 12.3-inch display screen is available, placing pertinent information plainly in sight. (You’ll be able to choose which view you like best, like Classic, Off-Road, Driver Assistance, or Navigation.)
There also is the 8-inch touchscreen display located between you and your front seat passenger. This infotainment system allows you to access navigation connect with the contacts in your phone, and choose from a multitude of media, be it Facebook, internet radio, and more.
Other ingenuities like the kick-activated power liftgate, panoramic sunroof, and heated steering wheel all help to make the Tiguan even more impressive and remain one step ahead.
